Project Features

Mary A Ranch Mitigation Bank is located south of the City of Palm Bay in Brevard County, Florida. The bank site is approximately 2,069 acres and is within the Southern St. Johns River Basin (Basin 20). The property has significant environmental value on a regional basis because of its size, connection to the Upper Basin of the St. Johns River, and proximity to other conservation lands, including T. M. Goodwin Water Fowl Management Area, Broadmoor Marsh, and the Fellsmere Water Management Area. The protection of this property adds to the major wildlife corridor along the east side of the St. Johns River allowing proliferation of a variety of flora and fauna, including endangered and threatened species of both listed animals and listed plants.

Restoration and enhancement intends on reversing the environmental damage caused by conversion to cattle ranching and row cropping and includes re-establishment of surface water flows and wetland hydroperiods, re-establishment of historic wetlands, improvement of the quality of habitat, and preservation of ecosystems. Invasive exotic species will continue to be targeted for treatment throughout the property and the long-term management plan includes a prescribed fire management plan.
