NeoVerde Mitigation Bank is located in south Volusia County, Florida. The bank site is approximately 1,300 acres and is within the Northern Indian River Lagoon (Basin 21). The property is located within the Volusia County Conservation Corridor, the Florida Blueway project, and is less than a mile from Turnbull Hammock Conservation Area and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The property is strategically located in the western headwaters and watershed of Turnbull Hammock, which drains into the Indian River Lagoon via Turnbull Creek, thus providing critical habitat in close proximity to existing State and Federal conservation lands.
The property includes mesic flatwoods, wet flatwoods, upland and wetland planted slash pine plantations, scrub and sand pines, dome and basin swamps, basin marsh, and mesic and hydric hammocks. Restoration and enhancement of the property includes returning its historical native communities, including the removal of existing dirt roads, filing ditches and road swales, and the installation of low-water crossings. Invasive exotic species will continue to be targeted for treatment throughout the property and the long-term management plan includes a prescribed fire management plan.
